d) Added the water-cooled condenser, which needed a seperate ring stand to support itself.
e) Used a 125 mL flask as the receiver.
2. Peeled oranges and weighed to the nearest gram (orange peels weighed approximately 71.1 grams).
3. Placed oranges and 250 mL of water in a blender and blended for 15-30 seconds.
4. Poured blender solution into the 500 mL flask (the boiler flask).
5. Reassembled distillation apparatus and plugged in heating well to begin the experiment.
6. Heated solution as fast as possible without changing the contents or having the foam reach the condenser.
7. Collected about 100 mL of distillate (orange peel oil) in the 125 mL flask (receiving flask).
Observations:
- Distillation started about 96-97°C
- Distillation temperature leveled off at 98°C.
- Distillation gave off an orange scent.
- Experiment took about two hours to complete distillation.
- After distillation, the orange mush no longer had its strong orange aroma.
